Sponge cake
Choose your favorite filling in the sponge cake and make your day special. It takes just 15 minutes to prep and 30 minutes to bake the cake. It is one of the best cakes that you can use with your afternoon cake. If you like, you can fill the cake with the jam; the child loves to eat jam filling cake.
Let’s start the cake recipe, but before the recipe, I would like to share what ingredients you need to make the cake.
Ingredients
To make sponge cake, you need to get the following ingredients:
• Butter softened 225 gram
• Golden caster sugar 225 gram
• Egg 4 large
• Lemon zest ½ tsp
• Vanilla extract 1 tsp
• Self-raising flour 225 gram
• Splash of milk
• For the filling (optional) lemon curd, jam, lightly whipped cream
• Icing sugar for dusting
Method
Follow the following method to make a moist and delicious sponge cake.
1. Heat the oven to 80C/160C fan. Take two 20 cm spring-form cake tins and line the bottom with parchment paper plus Grease them.
2. Now take a bowl and add butter and sugar now beat them with the help of an electric mixer. Now add the eggs one by one and mix them well. Do not forget to scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula after each addition of the egg.
3. Now add lemon zest in the same bowl and mix well, then you have to add vanilla, flour mix them well so they can look alike. Now add milk and pinch of salt. Mix the mixture for the next 1-2 minutes so it can get combined.
4. When the mixture gets into the cake shape, divide the batter into two parts and add them in the prepared tin.
5. Bake the cake for the next 25-30 minutes. You can also check the cake with the help of a toothpick. Insert the toothpick in the middle of the cake if it comes clear that means your cake is ready.
6. Remove the cake from the oven and transfer it on the wire rack so it can get cool.
7. Now fill the center of the cake as you like.
8. Decorate the top of the cake according to your wish.
9. Your cake is ready to eat.
